The short version

PrayerBoard has two parts: the PrayerBoard app for iPhone and Android, where you pray with friends and family in small private circles, and the PrayerBoard website at prayerboard.co, where churches and ministries run prayer boards for their communities. This policy covers both.

We only collect what we need to run PrayerBoard. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and the app doesn't track you or use third-party analytics.

What the app collects

  • Your phone number, so you can sign in with a text code. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. Other people in your circles never see your number.
  • Your name and an optional profile photo, shown to people in your circles. Photos are stored with Amazon Web Services.
  • What you share: the circles you create or join, your prayer requests, updates and answered prayers, and the prayers and notes you send. Each one is visible to the members of that circle.
  • Private requests: your circle sees that you asked for prayer, but only you see the words. We keep the words on our servers so they show up on your devices, and we never show them to anyone else.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on, your phone gives us a device token so we can send notifications through the Apple Push Notification service on iPhone or Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android. We also keep your notification settings.
  • Notification activity: which notifications you open, roughly what times of day you use the app, and your device's time zone. We use this only to send reminders at a good time for you, and fewer of them. We don't collect your location.
  • Voice prayers: we only record when you hold the hands to pray out loud. Recordings are stored privately, and only the person who asked and the person who prayed can listen. A recording is deleted when the request, its circle or either account is deleted.
  • Help with words (optional): when you ask for help finding words, we send the text of that request, with names taken out, to OpenAI to suggest a few starting points. We ask OpenAI not to store it, and it isn't used to train their models. We keep the suggestions for a day so we don't ask twice. Nothing is sent unless you ask.
  • Feedback: when you send us feedback, we keep your message, a screenshot if you add one, the app version, your device model and its software version. If you ask us to reply, we also see your name. Your feedback is deleted with your account.
  • Praying from a shared link: you can pray for a request someone shared with you without an account. We sign you in anonymously and keep the first name you give us, which the person who asked and their circle see with your prayer.
  • Reports and blocks: if you report something or block someone, we keep a record so we can review it and keep your circles safe.

If you invite friends from your contacts on iPhone, the contact picker lets you choose who to text. The app only uses the numbers you pick to start a text message on your phone. We never upload your contacts. When you use PrayerBoard in Messages, we don't read your conversations.

What the website collects

  • Host accounts: your name, email and password, or your Google sign-in, plus your board details and settings. If you subscribe, Stripe handles billing and we never see your full card number. Giving links you add go straight to the services you choose; we don't process donations.
  • Prayer requests on a board: what you write, plus your name, email or a voice recording if you choose to add them. The board's host can see them, and public requests appear on that board.
  • Contact form and newsletter: your email and message. The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to stop spam, and our newsletter is sent with Loops. You can unsubscribe any time.
  • Website analytics: the website (not the app) uses Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to understand how people find and use it.

How we use it

We use your information to run PrayerBoard: to sign you in, show your circles and boards, send the notifications and emails you've asked for, keep people safe, and fix problems. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't build profiles to sell or share.

Who helps us run PrayerBoard

Your data is processed in the United States by these providers, only to run the service:

  • Google Firebase, for sign-in and our database
  • Amazon Web Services, for photos, voice recordings and feedback screenshots
  • Vercel, which hosts our website and servers
  • Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging, to deliver notifications
  • OpenAI, only when you use Help with words
  • On the website only: Stripe, Loops, Google Workspace email, Google Analytics, Google reCAPTCHA and Vercel Analytics

Like most online services, our hosting keeps short-lived server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. We share information with others only if the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete your own requests and prayers any time. Notification history is deleted automatically after 60 days. Reports may be kept as long as we need them to keep people safe.

Deleting your account

In the app, on iPhone or Android, go to Profile and tap Delete account. This deletes your profile, name, photo and phone sign-in, your requests (with the prayers on them), the prayers, notes and voice prayers you've sent, your feedback, your device tokens, and your notification history and activity. Circles you started pass to the longest-standing member, or are deleted if nobody else is in them. Reports involving your account may be kept for safety. You can also delete your account without the app.

To delete a website account or anything you submitted on a board, email us at support@prayerboard.co and we'll take care of it.

Your choices

You can change your name and photo in the app, turn notifications off in your phone's settings or in Profile, and block anyone. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to fix or delete it, by emailing support@prayerboard.co.

Children

PrayerBoard is for people 13 and older. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, let us know and we'll delete it.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over encrypted connections, and access to our systems is limited. No service is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

Changes and questions

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and, for bigger changes, let you know in the app or by email. Questions? Write to us at support@prayerboard.co.
