A short morning prayer

Prayer for a new day

A morning prayer for the first quiet minutes of the day, before the phone and the to-do list.

Prayer · 1 min

For a new day

Lord, the day is still quiet and I haven't had a chance to mess anything up yet. Thank you for this small, clean start.

Your mercy showed up again this morning, the way it always does. I didn't earn it, and you don't ask me to.

Before the phone and the list and the noise, I just want to sit here with you for a minute.

Please be with my friends as they wake up too. Some of them are tired before the day has even begun. Give them a little of this morning's newness, and let them feel it.

Help me notice you in ordinary things today: a cup of coffee, a kind word, a stranger's face on the way somewhere.

Whatever comes, let me meet it knowing you were here first, and that you'll still be here tonight. Amen.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
