Prayer for the sick

The prayer of the day on September 8, 2026. Read it slowly, or pray it again today.

Prayer of the day · Tue, Sep 8 · 1 min

For those who are sick

Lord, this morning I'm thinking about people who woke up in pain or in a hospital bed.

Some of them are close to me. Some I've only heard about. You know every one of their names.

Sustain them on their sickbed. Give them good sleep, kind nurses, clear test results, and moments of real relief.

Comfort the families sitting in waiting rooms and driving back and forth to appointments. They're tired too. Give them strength and a few good laughs along the way.

If there's something I can do, a meal, a card, a visit, a text, make it obvious to me today.

And for myself, help me be grateful for the health I have, and gentle with my body. Amen.

The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.
Psalm 41:3 (ESV)
